# Welcome

Welcome to MATO, a new kind of decentralized exchange (DEX) built for fairness, simplicity, and transparency. Whether you're a trader, developer, or curious builder, this documentation is your guide to understanding the mechanics, philosophy, and architecture behind MATO.

Unlike traditional DEXs powered by Automated Market Makers (AMMs) or standard order books, MATO introduces a Time-Weighted Order Book (TWOB) — a system where trades are executed gradually over time, not instantly. This reduces slippage, discourages front-running, and provides a more predictable and fair trading experience.

We're building MATO to push the boundaries of what fair and efficient trading can look like in the age of decentralized finance.
